What’s Your Love Language?
What’s Your Love Language?
In 1992, Gary Chapman released a book titled “The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate.” Chapman has a background in religious studies, and the book premiered as a popular read in Christian circles. However, the concept of wanting to understand one another’s love languages was so universal that the book’s message quickly spread beyond the Christian niche and into popular culture.
The book boiled down to an online test that anyone can take (you can find that test here at 5 Love Languages: https://5lovelanguages.com/quizzes/. It explains that each person generally has two preferred ways of expressing and receiving love out of these five:
Receiving gifts
Quality time
Words of affirmation
Acts of service
Physical touch
While Chapman has no formal training in psychology or communications, the basic premise of the five love languages has been proven to fit into the structure of a personality test, which means that it’s at least helpful in offering insight, opening up conversations, and learning about the people around us. Once you know your love language, ask your friends and partners to share theirs with you too. If you share a language, that’s great; if you don’t, knowing what your partner responds best to will help you navigate ways to make them feel happy and loved.
I hope you have enjoyed this information. Until next time!
