Healthy Fats
Healthy Fats
When it comes to dietary fats, not all are created equal!
Here are some tips to help you know which are healthy:
Avoid trans fat
Common sources include solid margarine, commercial cookies, and pastries, fast-food french fries, “partially hydrogenated oil” in food ingredients.
Limit saturated fat
Common sources include red meat, whole milk and whole-milk dairy foods, cheese, coconut oil, many commercially prepared baked goods and other foods.
Take monounsaturated fats
Common sources include olive oil, peanut oil, avocados, most nuts.
Take polyunsaturated fats
Common sources include salmon, mackerel, and sardines, flax seeds, walnuts, canola oil.
In short: avoid trans fats, limit saturated fat, get plenty of mono and polyunsaturated fats
Until next time!
