Watch Your Tone
Watch Your Tone!
Don’t let this simple thing stand in the way of clear communication.
How often have you heard or said: “It’s not what you said, it’s the way you said it.”
In this discussion, we will explore the impact of using the wrong tone of voice. As an example, let's consider the sentence "Why are the dishes still in the sink?" Say it aloud with an angry tone, and then again with a genuinely curious tone. Do you notice how the different tones can convey different meanings?
Even if our intention is not to be confrontational, using a hostile tone can make our partner or housemate feel attacked, which can trigger their insecurities.
If you find that simple questions often escalate into arguments in your relationship, it could be because your tone is not resonating well with your partner.
To resolve this, try asking questions in a sincerely curious tone, even if it feels forced or immature. This approach can help avoid unnecessary conflicts.
If you inadvertently use a wrong tone and the other person feels hurt, it's essential to acknowledge their feelings and apologise for being insensitive. Moving forward, strive to speak in a more calm and thoughtful manner.
I hope you have enjoyed this information. Until next time!
