Autoimmune Diseases and who?
Who do you know with an Autoimmune Disease?
‘I have recently been diagnosed with Sjogren’s Syndrome, an autoimmune disease which is an ongoing medical condition that affects my energy level and causes fatigue and joint pain.’ Venus Williams.
When I decided to become a Health Coach, friends and family started asking me, ‘Why?’
It soon became apparent, though, that I had not told many people about my own autoimmune disease diagnosis. The fact I wanted to help others with their problems and help them on a path of health and wellness was a shock to some!
Why had I not informed people? Often I had people suggest that I looked tired or asked me how I was, so at those points, why had I never discussed the Autoimmune Diseases? Why not let them know of my flare that I was currently having?
I think some times we are worried about being labelled. In a work environment, it can be a concern that people will judge you and assume you cannot complete the task.
Our health is our own private matter, but it has been wonderful to share my personal experiences now with you. It has opened up discussions with friends and family who also struggle with autoimmune diseases, and it’s so lovely to know that we are not going through this alone.
